Ads remembering Rajiv Gandhi:Corruption!!!!!!!!!

We could not stop this corruption!!

While many parts of the country are inundated with flood waters and Delhi's roads flooded with India Against Corruption supporters, I find the media flooded with Ads remembering Rajiv Gandhi on public money today. Since Congress said Anna's birthday spent of Rs 2 lakh was corruption, would somebody measure this corruption by the Government?.....and how this much money could have made a difference to flood affected people's lives!!

STOP CORRUPTION: FILE A PIL TODAY: Stop Ads remembering Rajiv Gandhi tomorrow on taxpayers money.......Since Congress said Anna's birthday spent of 2 lakh was corruption, please stop this corruption due in the next 24-hours in full public view!!!

Birthdays: Anna Hazare’s vrs Rajiv Gandhi’s

Birthdays: Anna Hazare’s vrs Rajiv Gandhi’s !!

So, Anna Hazare spent Rs 2 lakh on his birthday!! Corruption!! Poor boy Anna! Only Rs 2 lakh? Wait people for 4 more days- August 20- when the Congress and UPA Government will be commemorating Rajiv Gandhi’s birthday with ads in the media alone worth several crores!! I think Government will assign Justice Sawant to find out now volume of public money spent in remembering our late PM and if that amounts to corruption!! Or may be Government will find out some other Justice, like Justice Ramaswamy who was defended by Kapil Sibal in the Parliament against impeachment for his noble conduct!! We already have reports about ‘land grab’ in Gurgaon by a foundation!!

I remember how on November 19, 2010 the media ads were remembering Indira Gandhi….The Times of India on page 2 had on its top a wailing woman, victim of Lalita Park house collapse in Delhi and the bottom half was a Government ad remembering Mrs Gandhi!! That was not corruption!! We have to remember our leaders on public money!! I wondered if the money spent on ads for Indira Gandhi could have been spent on rehabilitation of house collapse victims, then perhaps Indira’s soul would have also smiled!!!

So people, listen to the Government!! Understand corruption!! And how dare I compare a citizens birthday bash with a leader’s? I should know leaders are superior human beings…It is not corruption to spend public money on their birthday!!

"CORRUPT(ION), QUIT INDIA”

August 9, 1942: “British, Quit India”// AUGUST 16, 2011:”CORRUPT(ION), QUIT INDIA”

While I may buy critics for a while that Anna Hazare is not the most ideal person to lead a campaign against CORRUPT(ION), I am sure that there seems no other person in India today better than Anna, suited to lead a campaign on the issue. I challenge all the political parties both in power and not in power to throw a candidate who can pull masses (say crowd). They have none!! The political class has lost its trust in the minds of very citizen who they are supposed to serve long back.

Even if we trust Justice Sawant’s report(I think that the Government will do a far better act of public service by ordering its own ministers associated trusts accounts than commissioning an enquiry about Anna’s credentials)we should remember it is a report with AN INTENTION!

At the moment Anna is not important. The MISSION is more important than the MAN. The cause should be supported by one and all and Jan-Lokpal is just one of the tools. I disagree that PM should be there in its ambit, but I do agree that it is the high time to think about ways of cleaning up.

I am surprised how people of eminence have suggested that corruption should be legalised. Legalise corruption because it is rampant!!, Then also legalise other crimes like Murder, Loot, Rape….other crimes too are rampant!! It’s a matter of great shame that instead of doing away with corruption, there are vested anti-people interests who want India to remain corrupt. I am not with ANNA(I have reservations about his photograph with Raj Thakrey), but I’m certainly with his MISSION. I will support any politician or minister also who will take up the cause….But the political parties do not have the charm to attract people, vision of a way out or mission for the masses……

It took 5-years for India to earn Independence after the Quit India call on August 9, 1942……. If we can take forward the 1942 love story for India to 2011, August 16, 2011 can very well augur elimination of CORRUPT(ION)….in next 5-years!! Decide, you are WITH CORRUPTION or AGAINST IT?? CORRUPT(ION), QUIT INDIA!!!!

Help: My vocab is poor(Tout or Government?)

When Rahul Gandhi said ‘touts’ are running government in UP, I am thinking since then if UP Government can be called “Tout” what should we call our excellent UPA government at the centre? Since, I could not succeed in finding the right word; I thought I should seek help from friends online. Because we have many jewels in the crown for the UPA Government. Like, Ministers who have exceled in corruption (and MPs)! Where the Cabinet no-2 does not trust the Home Minister of the country for safety of his office (but the citizen should trust for safety of the nation!!!). Where the MOS does not obey PM but is still an MOS! A Government which allowed Railways to be misused for one lady’s ambition and people pay price with their lives (If it is made mandatory that our politicians must travel by train only, I am sure train accidents will stop)! A CWG where scams were monitored by GOMs? A Government which facilitates Quattrocchi’s release! …..and so on and so forth….....So if the UP Government (I am no supporter to Maya) is “tout”, can we call UPA Government “Mother of all touts”? If not, please, help me with a better word. My vocabulary is poor!!!!

Thank You Railways!!

Allahabad junction, June 15, 1994…….. When I returned after succeeding in filling a bottle of water from the over crowded cold water tap few meters away from my train, the train was not there! Before I realised, my train (3417) had left Allahabad Railway station for Mumbai, then Bombay. It had on board all my original certificates and testimonials, in a suitcase and a bag which were un-locked and un-chained. I was a waitlist passenger in sleeper class- slept when a birth got vacant and did not realise that the train had already finished its scheduled stoppage. It was around 11am, June 15, 1994 exactly 17-years ago. I was left with only some cash and my train ticket in my pocket, a bottle of water and a towel around my neck…everything else was en-route to Bombay!!

I rushed to the Station Superintendent (SS) room and requested help! The SS told though it is late but they would try….they tried and tried and tried…..and traced my luggage after two hours of consistent calling when the train had traveled about 100km from Allahabad Junction to Tikaria Station. Good! The officers smiled, “we have found your luggage and have arranged the Station Master of Tikaria to take its possession”. I was given a slip with SS stamp(which I have still kept with me) requesting Station master Tikaria “Sri Rajeet Ranjan Sinha, who missed his luggage on 3417 is going with this slip, please handover his luggage”.

Couple of hours later I boarded Bombay Mail which did not have a halt at Tikaria but to a station 7-km away. I had the option of waiting for a connecting passenger train or taking a local village bus, I got the bus first and reached Tikaria around 9pm. There was a new station master(SM) on duty then and he told me that for safety reasons they had sent my luggage to another station, Markandi. He said he would arrange the same by to come to Tikaria by the midnight passenger train. He also offered me to have dinner with him and then advised me to take rest on seats at the platform. There was no electricity at the station and I slept few feet away from the tracks on the seats at the platform.

Come midnight, my train was to reach, the SM woke me up and took lantern in his one hand and we walked to the guard’s compartment. The guard handed over my luggage to me and the station master helped me by carrying one bag in his hand to the middle of the packed train where he could fit me in with my luggage. The train was over stopped there to help me.

I do not remember any officers’ name today, so THANK YOU RAILWAYS!! Thank You!!

Indian Media- a shame for nation……Fasting Nigamanada death vrs Ramdev’s fast:

Indian Media- a shame for nation……Fasting Nigamananda death vrs Ramdev’s fast:

Indian media: owned, bought, controlled and run by jokers in name of journalism! Where were the brightest journalists and media houses of values-all selling and pushing their own agendas in name of public interest & welfare-forcing agendas for nation where there is none? I did not know that some Nigamananda was fasting for 115-days to save river Ganges! Where were the OB Vans, dedicated pages against issues, 24-hour coverage and campaigns? Where was the journalistic and editorial prudence in picking Nigmananda story before? Is it not a high time to audit media? But it seems we are a failed nation with failed Government, super-failed opposition(where were the BJP and allies……promising Ram Temple but not caring for Ganges)……and a media which proves itself a bunch of jokers with its actions… INDIA ASHAMED!!

Ruling party has terror sympathisers!

Postscript!!

It is high time for the Congress Party and the UPA to state boldly if Digvijay Singh's views are not accepted by them, they don't accept Digvijay Singh! How can the ruling party has a GENERAL SECRATARY who is a terrorist sympathiser!! Time for the Congress JI to come clean on Digvijay JI about "Osama JI"
.....Merely 'distancing' itself from the statement is not enough!! If Congress means it, they should condemn and distance itself from such general secretaries..

As I had said in previous posts today that 1.Nazar hai match per, party abhi baaki hai... Peete jao Madira, Poonam Pandey Saaki hai..... 2. Bihari Dhoni's team's win should also slap in the face all policians who play or tacitly support regionalism and divide the nation....... 3.World Cup is pride.....but shame that it was given away by someone who as a minister sat on the death of farmers by starvation and shame to cabinet who as a puppet gave tax sop to undeserving ICC FINALLY.........CONGRATS TEAM INDIA, SACHIN, DHONI, KAPIL AND ALL...... party abhi baaki hai, poonam pandey saaki hai......

What else a puppet cabinet can do????

Environment, Youth and The Media

YUVA meet(special event of TERI's DSDS 2011): Road to global sustainability via local initiatives

On perspectives from Media, NGOs and Youth Bodies

I am just an ordinary learner in media trying to understand it and I have come here to learn from your thoughts. I will say a few words, my views could be biased and hence you must critically listen to it.

Do you think media has a role to play in your life and issues related to the environment? Yes or no?

Do you think that media has delivered in line with your expectations?

Do you think that media is doing its duty to help protect the environment?

Do you know who Payal is or was? Do you know who Jessica was? I will come back to this question again. Do you think that media played its role right in delivering justice for Jessica? Then do you also think that media failed in its duty to push justice for Payal and many others like her? Payal was one of the Nithari victims, a place close to Delhi, where dozens of youngsters and women were sexually abused and killed over a period of time. My argument is that in order to push cases like justice for Jessica, media prioritises and denies space to many other victims or causes, who deserve media attention and space too but fail to get it. How fair the media’s wisdom to prioritise issues is, is a matter of opinion too. Same is the story with environment related coverage.

The point I am trying to make is that it’s fine to know that Tigers need to be protected, but do we also need to know, that how many of our citizen are struggling for bare survival, for resources like clean drinking water and does that also need due attention from the media? And should it form part of the larger debate on environment? Are these issues inter-related? For each one of us, how can we make the difference in our day-to-day lives? Who will research that and who will communicate and propagate that?

Environment related issues in general are a non prime-time or no front page content globally. I am sharing excerpts from an article written by James Painter who is head of the journalism fellowship programme at the Reuters Institute for the study of Journalism, Oxford ten days back. Painter says that Media interest in climate change takes a dive and I quote

“A year can be a very long time in the life of media interest. In December 2009, I was one of more than 4,000 journalists who attended the UN’s Copenhagen summit on climate change – probably the largest press presence for an international event outside of sport….
…One year on, and the next major summit at the Mexican resort of Cancun was much less of an attraction ……. This time, around 1,200 of us made the trip, and many of these were from Mexico, the host nation, and Latin America. The numbers of British reporters dropped to around 50 from the 200-plus there were at Copenhagen…..”

The article mentions another research by Professor Robert Brulle at Drexel University saying that in the US, Cancun coverage on the networks amounted to one 10-second clip. This contrasts with the 32 stories totaling 98 minutes generated by the Copenhagen talks
Quoting Painter again “the decline in media interest has prompted plenty of analysis for the reasons behind it and renewed debate about the relationship between volume of coverage and its effect on human attitudes and behavior”

It’s a fantastic write-up and I suggest that all of you should hit the RISJ site and read his piece.

The treatment of environment related stuff by the media is not only an issue of priority. It’s also a matter of clarity. Someone said that whenever we have a choice, try selecting what is right and not what is convenient. To select right, it depends that the source has strength and is an unbiased one. The source has to be one who clarifies values. Sadly, many of the stories that come in the media lack that source of strength, value and the clarity it should offer to viewer or to the reader. There are half-baked stories and instead of clarity, sometimes it adds to the confusion only.

You are all young and avid user of social media. While social media is turning commercially stronger, how committed commercial media is to the society, is a matter of debate. How can we harness the social media to help better the environment? And how can we push the commercial media to be more socially responsible?

I do not know but want to ask you if you feel that the page-3 material improves our lives and if there is any environmental loss in printing those sheets? Is there is anything worth gaining from that? Can we think of a supplement like page 3 on environment?

I stopped watching news TV almost 15-months back and I assume that though I may not be updated a bit, it has not made me outdated.

Good, Cricket world cup is here IPL is next and we will soon see lot of content reported out of these events.

We often hear that make things interesting, people will watch automatically. What is there that makes cricket always interesting? You watch it, so its viewership is that makes it interesting and in demand.-If you want change, it is you who will make the change. It is my personal belief, that the youth of this country will do a great favour to the nation and to the environment if they stop watching cricket-to the extent of boycotting it. If you demand and push the advertisers and media for content on issues that are of greater relevance and importance to you, things have to change. The prioritisation of content like cricket and entertainment in news media is like a dose of opium to keep the people away from realities or to invite debate on them.

Would you like the political class to serve you or to use you? Are you happy or at least content with the content of Indian media? Do you want more or different? How can you use media and not be used by media? These are some of the questions I want to put before you!

Who will bell the cat? Your environment is too serious a business to be left on the mercy of few editors and media owners. It’s your media and your environment; you have to demand and drive content. It’s your right and it’s your duty!

Thank you!
